{"id":212,"date":"2018-11-07T17:33:14","date_gmt":"2018-11-07T07:33:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.iwbc.org.au\/?page_id=212"},"modified":"2025-05-25T00:39:38","modified_gmt":"2025-05-24T14:39:38","slug":"cycling-participation-surveys-for-inner-west","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.iwbc.org.au\/index.php\/cycling-participation-surveys-for-inner-west\/","title":{"rendered":"Cycling Participation Surveys for Inner West"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest (2018) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iwbc.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/NCPS-Inner-West-2018Participation.pdf\">NCPS Inner West (2018)Participation<\/a> (a telephone survey)shows a significant increase in participation in cycling in the Inner West. 378 households were surveyed, with 820 occupants.<\/p>\n<p>Figures show a rise from 15.4% to 20.2% of residents who had cycled in the last week.(Figure 2.1) Approximately 39,400 residents ride in a typical week and 72,200 residents ride at least once in a typical year.<\/p>\n<p>Cycling rates are significantly higher in the Inner West than in the remainder of Sydney and NSW.(Figure 2.2)<\/p>\n<p>Males are significantly more likely to have ridden in the past week than females (Figure 2.3)<\/p>\n<p>Males over 50 are cycling more. (Figure 2.4)<\/p>\n<p>If you want to cycle more often, check out our three member groups, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iwbc.org.au\/\">Bike Leichhardt, Bike Marrickville and Bike Ashfield<\/a>, who all organise regular rides and activities.<\/p>\n<p>Note added in March 2022: A<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cwanz.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/NWCPS-NSW-2021-v2.0.pdf\"> State Participation S Survey<\/a> was done in 2021. It doesnt contain a Local Govt breakdown.<\/p>\n<p><br \/><span style=\"font-size: revert;\">\u00a0[Note added in May 2025] Inner West Council says in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.innerwest.nsw.gov.au\/ArticleDocuments\/33781\/Cycling%20Action%20Plan.pdf.aspx\">Bicycle Strategy Action Plan 2023<\/a> that it will conduct biennial bicycle counts, but no results have been released. Some bike paths have rubber counting strips, but no data available as far as we know.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Pre- 2018 IW Council participated in yearly Super Tuesday and Super Sunday counts, organised by Bicycle Network. IWBC supplied volunteers for the counts, which took place at around 20 locations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the Active Transport <a href=\"https:\/\/photos.app.goo.gl\/dYk657L8ZgcMbhxf7\">Mode Shift Forum<\/a> in Marrickville Library in May 2025 a number of participants stated that base line data on cycling was vital to measure success or progress in encouraging cycling for transport in particular.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest (2018) NCPS Inner West (2018)Participation (a telephone survey)shows a significant increase in participation in cycling in the Inner West. 378 households were surveyed, with 820 occupants.
